The City of Roswell recognizes the need for current leaders to continue to enhance their skills and grow to further their leadership potential. In an effort to assist in this growth, the City of Roswell is pleased to introduce the Leadership Experience And Development Program (LEAD) for current managers, supervisors and leaders. This 9 month intense leadership development program will feature classroom sessions, a presentation project, group projects and work life application of theories discussed. Participants will learn from other participants, self-reflection exercises and opportunities to apply specific principles in their work.

Program Schedule/Topics
Each participant will attend one session per month of the core curriculum courses for a total of nine (9) classes plus graduation. Additionally, each participant will be asked to attend at least two (2) elective courses of their choice that will be offered over the nine month program.
  • Do I Lead or Manage? - an overview of Leadership versus Management
  • Wait, I Have to Make a Presentation? - how to make effective presentations to a variety of audiences
  • Leadership Styles - An overview of a variety of different leadership styles and examining what works best in what situations
  • Communication & Feedback - how to communicate effectively, give and receive feedback including a look at interpersonal skills
  • How Do You Hold the Team Accountable? - Performance Management including accountability, teamwork and empowerment
  • Human Resources 101 - an overview of what a leader needs to know from a Human Resources perspective including policies and procedures and the employee life cycle
  • From a Great Idea to Full Implementation - how to design and implement a strategic plan
  • Who is Managing Me? - how to manage your time, projects and multitasking to make sure you are effective for your team
  • Delivering Customer Delight - going beyond just providing service to our customers to truly delighting them

The ideal candidate is someone who is interested growing into a senior leadership role in the City of Roswell. They are likely serving in a management or leadership role currently.

The following are criteria for a successful participant:

  • Currently serving in a Management, Supervisory or Leadership Role with the City of Roswell at an acceptable level as determined by their Department Director
  • Must have been employed with the City for at least six months and in their current role for at least six months (the Department Director may waive this requirement)
  • Department Director approval to participate
  • Desire to be in the program and a willingness to effect change in their division
  • Must be able to meet deadlines
  • Must be able and willing to present in front of a group
  • Must be willing and able to devote the time required to complete projects assigned and energy needed to the program
  • Must be committed to attending the classroom sessions
